user profiles for audio

well, I had an excellent idea last night whilst I was trying to get to sleep. you see, I use my pc for lots of things. businessy things, music promotion, messing about on the internet, and also making music.
the thing is that I have it setup to do all these things from one user account. This is bad. it bogs down the system with loads of unneeded stuff when I dont need it.
so I thought ‘ill make a new profile, just for my music production work and see if its any better.
well, It is. nothing loads at login. absolutely nothing. I dont need digsby to IM my friends, so it doesnt start. I dont need to check my email, so that doesnt start. Infact, the only thing that starts is a avg and my firewall, I might even disable the internet entirely on this account, so then I dont even need to load them either, but that would mean that I cant update my blog from this account, so ill leave that for just now.
the first thing that I did was to make shortcuts to all the music stuff that I use all the time and put the icons in my desktop and in my quickstart bar (I’m using XP, but still, you can make desktop icons in any OS) this means that i dont have to go searching about my start menu for stuff when i need it, its always there.
im not after pretty looks, well, not with this profile anyway, so I have turned off all the desktop effects and the wallpapers, etc. I use teal (VGA) as the look for xp. a bit 1996, but still. its fast. way fast.
so now i have a separate profile for all my audio work i can now actually get things done and not be distracted by random popups telling me i have new mail (or the beeps that happen from msn right when you are doing a realtime bounce of a ten minute track and the noise ends up in the track =)
so from now on i can use this profile for my blog posts - I have the screenshot capture program running (it ust sits idle till i press print screen, then pops up with the screenshot) I need to configure the video capture on this profile, but hopefully it will be easy this time. ill need to dig through my own posts to find the name of the video capture program i used that uploads to youtube once you have captured your videos, so ill post a video later on today.
