I’m addicted to making these youtube mashups now, this is my third one in as many days =|
for this one I used a drumming lesson and a few analog synths.
as with the other ones all the sound you hear comes directly from the videos playing, all I did was re-order the frames of the video and its corresponding audio =)

well, I made this video yesterday, and had so much fun that I did another one today. The second one is a bit better than the first, but only just. again, made in ableton live with clips from youtube video’s.

here is a song that I made from youtube videos. I looked for someone playing drums, then edited the video to my own beat, then I found someone teaching you how to play latin bass lines on a double bass and a guy playing sax in a park, added them to it and found a girl singing.

some more cool ways to get free music

As you know I am always on the look out for ways to find new music (as in music that I have never heard before)
well, I found a couple of cool ways to get some tunes playing.
The first is Twisten.fm
its a site that lets you listen to twitter. basically is searches twitter for all the ‘bob is listening to metallica’ type posts and adds a little play button next to the post and if you click it then the song plays. it also adds a link to grooveshark where you can listen to the song. pretty neat. also, If you log into twitter via twisten.fm then it will only search your friends lists for the songs they have been listening to. pretty neat.

another site that is very cool is seeqpod.com just type in something into the search box and it returns a massive list of songs, you can then add them to a playlist and you can embed that playlist pretty much anywhere. like this

another one is mixturtle.com though it doesnt really have as many cool features as seeqpod. so for now my online music player of choice is by far seeqpod (if only twisten.fm had a feature to keep playing through all the tracks that pop up on twitter then you wouldnt need anything else, but it stops after each one, and there is no way to build a playlist of the songs =(

number one single when I was born

well, I am a bit bored today, so I decided to look up the number one single when I was born.
it turns out that it was ‘the specials’ with ‘ghost town’
not bad. it was number one from the 11th july 1981 for 3 weeks.

I own my own domain ( I own a couple of them) and I have to pay for bandwidth, so I can’t afford to host my own mp3 files here, so I have been looking into different ways to host my audio files -
Last.fm seems to be the best one to use, but its not really possible to embed the audio from last.fm inside my own webpage (you can make playlists of your songs, but you have to be a subscriber – even to listen to tracks that you own the copyright to, which is kind of pointless and you have to listen to them on the last.fm site.)
so, the first thing I did was to look at sites that I know have mp3′s embeded in them and took a peek at their source code to see if they were hosted on their own site or on an external service…
most were. so I drew a line under that chain of thought.
up till now i have been using youtube, and putting up video’s with my music in them, which kinda sucks. youtube audio quality is very poor, and its mono.

then it hit me. Archive.org
the internet archive. I can host my stuff there. and then embed it into my site and leach off of their bandwidth.
its pretty easy – just create an account and then upload your track, then copy the url for your hosted mp3 and put it into your site. the only downfall is that you have to licence it with a creative commons licence, so i made a tune to test it first..

I like the radio, Its not like the TV – with the radio you can listen to it while you do other things (unless you are recording, mixing or mastering =) things like checking emails, sending replies to messages on the numerous social networking sites and generally all the other crap you have to do all day.

radiobeta.com is a cool site that lets you listen to radio stations from all over the world, kind of like shoutcast, or the Itunes radio thing, but it allows you to search by geographic location, or genre. You can also plug in the broadcast frequency and find the station that way.

a couple of cool things about this site – you can make playlists of your fav stations, which is nice for finding them again =)
