im sitting right now participating in a video shoot for a local band called rose parade. when i say participating i really mean watching. and singing ‘da da da da’ when needed it has made me realise that there is a decent community in ayr. its not all musicians; everyone here is a musician in their own right, but we arent all here in that capacity. Campbell is here in the capacity of ‘camera guy’ jamie is here in the capacity that only he can provide; he is also the journalist for his new column in the local paper. rose parade are here to provide the tunes. the rest of us are to proved the massed chorus chants.

i hope that this community continues to grow because it has came from nothing. it has a long way to go; but it will get there.

im addicted now =)

I’m addicted to making these youtube mashups now, this is my third one in as many days =|
for this one I used a drumming lesson and a few analog synths.
as with the other ones all the sound you hear comes directly from the videos playing, all I did was re-order the frames of the video and its corresponding audio =)

well, I made this video yesterday, and had so much fun that I did another one today. The second one is a bit better than the first, but only just. again, made in ableton live with clips from youtube video’s.

here is a song that I made from youtube videos. I looked for someone playing drums, then edited the video to my own beat, then I found someone teaching you how to play latin bass lines on a double bass and a guy playing sax in a park, added them to it and found a girl singing.

pretty simple, but invaluable if you are just starting out.

christmas songs

well, its coming up for that time of year when all the crappy christmas songs come out.
I must admit that there is one good song in the uk charts this year – the Jeff Buckley version of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen.
all the other versions just arent as good. simple.
anyway, on to the point about this post – its christmas, so I am, again, in charge of music for the whole family… its what I do. last year we had black sabbath for the music. this year I think i’m going with funk.

I was feeling a bit epic today

I was feeling a bit epic today, so I wrote this. I just jammed it out in two passes – one for the bass parts, and one for the higher stuff, its a bit messy, but I kinda like it. I had midi tracks going from ableton into reason, and the audio going back into ableton. there is a tutorial on the site on how to do this if you want to play with it yourself, i should really have put the epic music against something that wasnt very epic, like an episode of pidgeon street or something (I might do that later on and post the video here, so check back) just to prove that piano samples and staccato can make anything epic.
