double click the button. this takes you to the ‘multitasking’ part.

swipe left. there is an icon at the leftmost position.

hit it.

you can now use your iphone without it flipping the screen!!!!!

• open itunes
• make a new playlist folder (i called mine iphone)
• make a new smart playlist inside the folder you just made
• select media kind
• select podcast
• hit the +

now you have lots of options. if your podcaster fills out the artist info the same for each episode, then use that, eg

• artist is nasa

you might have to play around to get the right options to get your specific podcast.

• hit limit to 25 episodes, or whatever you want
• also, select order by latest

make one smart playlist for each podcast you want to have lots of episodes of.

under the podcast sync tab

• select ‘all unplayed’ or 3 most recent unplayed, or 3 most recent new

this way you will have every episode of your selected podcast, and only the 3 most recent (or whatever you selected) of the others. and they are automaticly updated every time you get new podcasts

I also made a couple of music related smart playlists

• media kind is music
• playcount is 0
• limit 25
• order by album

• media kind is music
• playcount is 0
• limit 25
• order by artist

• media kind is music
• playcount is 0
• limit 25
• order by artist

• media kind is music
• lastplay is not in the last 6 months
• playcount is greater than 10

I also added a couple of static playlists with albums i like having at all times and made sure i synced them to my iphone. that way i always have new music, tracks i have never listened to, tracks i havent listened to in a long time and the music i listen to all the time, and i always have new podcasts, and podcasts i like listening to a lot (like the jund dubstep podcast =)

the good thing about these playlists is that every time you listen to music on your iphone or your mac the playlists change =)

the hardest part about having so many email accounts and social networking accounts is finding the time to log into them all and check for mail and messages. this will free up some off your time to do other stuff

firstly, you will have multiple email acocunts, eg I have one for spam mail, one for my personal mail, an old hotmail acocunt, a yahoo account for my flickr, one from my isp that my isp bills get sent to, one for my domain, two for my band,  and one for my work. thats 9 that i need to check regularly. that takes hours of loging into and out of google, hotmail, yahoo mail and my isp’s mail. not to mention trying to get them on my iphone =|

about a year ago google started a feature that lets you fetch mail from other services with POP3

that takes care of the hotmail (you cannot forward hotmail to another acocunt that isnt part of the microsoft network)

yahoo and google let you forward all mail to another account.

good. so you get the picture.

• login to your individual accounts and forward all emails to your designated grand-master account
• if they dont let you forward, then login to your main gmail account and goto
• settings > accounts and import
• the first option lets you import your contacts from hotmail, yahoo mail, etc (very handy)
• the third option lets you check your accounts with pop3 access (check with the service for details on this (eg hotmail))
• the second option on this list lets you send email from the addresses of the accounts you are importing (so if someone sends an email to your hotmail address, then you can send the reply from that hotmail address but using gmail)

• I suggest setting up filters for every email address so that you can find mail from specific accounts easily
• it also makes it easier when using gmail to find stuff.

once you have all the email coming in to your grand-master gmail account then you can then

• setup mail.app to get your grand-master gmail account emails

• sync your iphone / ipod touch with your gmail account (and get all your google contacts and calendars at the same time)

• sync all your contacts from your gmail google contacts to your addressbook

by this point you should have all your email flowing from all your different email accounts into your grand-master gmail account and from there into your iphone and your mail.app

after doing this you will have all your google contacts on your iphone, and all your google calendars on your iphone (or your ipod touch)  – any changed you make on google, or on your iphone will be ‘saved’ to your google contacts / calendar.

• on your iphone, or ipod touch, goto settings > mail > add
• hit microsoft exchange (trust me, it works)
• under email and username, put in your gmail address
• dont put anything under domain
• hit the next button at the top
• I had to accept a certificate
• under server put m.google.com
• hit next again
• turn off mail.
• turn on contacts and calendars
• hit done
• then sync.
• enable push under settings > fetch new data
  you dont need anything turned on in itunes for the sync.
• the final step is to go to m.google.com/sync in your iphone or  ipod touch’s safari, login, select your iphone / ipod touch and then pick the calendars you want to sync =)

you will now have your google calendars on your iphone / ipod touch, and you will have all your contact aswell! -

If you have done all this then you will have the same list of contacts on your mac, on your iphone, and on your google contacts. you will also have the same calendars. any change, or addition you make on any device will show up in all the others

the first app is the facebook app. most of you will have it. it lets you use facebook, in a nice ui.

the next is tweetdeck. it lets you tweet from multiple accounts. and a ehole load of other stuff too.

then dailyburn ( they have two apps – one for their site that lets you enter workouts, nutrition, etc and the other that lets you scan the food you ate to automatically log it ) i use both. every day.

next is netnewswire. it lets you read rss feeds ( it syncs to your google reader account )

then its the flickr app.

then bam analytics.
it lets you see how many people have visited your site, so that you know when you are doing the right thing

i also use the wordpress app and the myspace app, on an almost daily basis.

there are plenty of other apps that i use, but not nearly as regularly as the ones ive mentioned

yes, i use my iphone as an ipod, yes, i use the built-in mail.app and safari, but you all have those

which apps do you use every day? i’d like to know, just incase there are some i havent tried

I just had a look at the top keywords for the last 7 days. not surprisingly there are lots of entries for ‘ical delegates’, ‘google calendar’ + ‘delegates’, ‘what are ical delegates’ etc. so, I had a look at the stuff I did with google calendar, syncing it to your mac’s ical and thought the explination was a little poor.

first off, what is a delegate, and why should you be concerned about them:

a delegate is basically any calendar thats not your main one. you should be concerned because if you add a google calendar to your ical then all the sub calendars appear as delegates.

so if i have a calendar named ‘work’ and one named ‘personal’ and one named ‘gigs to see’ then ‘work’ would be the main one (the main one is the first calendar you made) and ‘personal’ and ‘gigs to see’ would be delegates.

its ok, and its workable, unless you sync your ical to your iphone (check out how to sync your google calendar to your iphone calendar here ).

to set up all your calendars without having them appear as delegates follow these instructions:

• open ical, goto preferences and accounts.

• hit the + button in the bottom left

• fill in your google email address, eg bob.smith@gmail.com

• and password and it will get the rest of the server stuff by itsself.

• you then need to put in the url of your calendar in the server settings tab.

to get the url to use:

• goto calendar.google.com
• get to the properties for the calendar you wish to import
• goto the screen with the privacy options
• you will see the address of the calendar

it will be something like

https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/randomstring@group.calendar.google.com/user

• put this in to the server settings tab in ical as the ‘server path’

Repeat with each calendar in your google calendar by making a new account in ical for each calendar you have in google calendar.

If you have the iphone setup to sync your contacts, calendars and mail from google (from the link up the page) then any event you add to any calendar (on your mac, on your iphone or via google calendar – or by any other method that adds the event to any of the devices) will be synced to every one of the other devices. that way I can automatically add events to my calendars from my mail.app, or by adding them in google calendar when im at work (by syncing outlook to my ‘work’ calendar) or i can add them on my iphone calendar, and they are instantly available on any of the other places!

one feature id love to see is auto 3g toggle (so that it automatically comes on if you need it) and power profiles ( so that you can save a configuration as “max battery” and switch by double clicking the button
maybe there is an app ( there is probably a jailbreak app for it )
