Harviestoun – The ridge

Harviestoun Brewery has been producing award-winning ales from Clackmannanshire since 1983, making them one of Scotland’s more established craft breweries. They’re best known for Bitter and Twisted โ€” one of Scotland’s most celebrated golden ales โ€” but their range extends well beyond the flagship. The Ridge is one of their more hop-forward offerings, a pale ale that leans into the citrus and pine character of modern craft hops while maintaining the Harviestoun house quality.

Tasting Notes

The Ridge pours a clear pale golden colour with a white head. The nose is fresh and hoppy โ€” citrus and pine leading, with some tropical fruit notes underneath. On the palate it’s crisp and moderately bitter: citrus and pine hop character come through clearly, balanced by a clean malt base, and the finish is dry and refreshingly bitter. It’s a well-made hop-forward pale ale that delivers what the name implies โ€” something with a bit of edge to it.

Verdict

Serve cold and drink fresh. The Ridge is a solid, well-crafted Scottish pale ale from a brewery with a long track record of getting this kind of beer right. It’s worth seeking out if you enjoy hop-forward pale ales and want something from a brewery with genuine Scottish heritage. Harviestoun consistently deliver, and The Ridge is a fine addition to their range.
