Williams Bros Brewing Co are one of Scotland’s most interesting and inventive breweries, operating out of Alloa and known for creating ales inspired by historical Scottish brewing traditions. Birds and Bees is their summer golden ale and one of their most celebrated beers — a beer that perfectly captures what warm-weather drinking should be about without sacrificing any character in the process.
Tasting Notes
It pours a bright, clear golden colour with a white head and an immediately enticing aroma — lemon peel, coriander, and a soft floral hoppiness that’s fresh and inviting. On the palate it’s light and crisp with a zesty citrus character upfront, gentle malt sweetness in the middle, and a clean, refreshing bitter finish. The coriander addition gives it a subtle herbal quality that lifts it above a straightforward golden ale.
Verdict
Serve cold and drink outside if at all possible — Birds and Bees is a summer beer in the best sense. It’s the kind of ale you reach for when the sun finally appears and you want something genuinely refreshing but with more flavour than a lager. Pairs brilliantly with light food: salads, grilled fish, or just a packet of crisps in a beer garden. One of Williams Bros’ best, and that’s saying something.
