Chuwi Hi10 Pro ultrabook tablet convertable surface

The Chuwi Hi10 Pro represents a fascinating category of device — a budget Chinese Windows 10 and Android dual-boot tablet that offered Surface-like functionality at a fraction of the price. Running on an Intel Atom X5-Z8350 processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, it came with a detachable keyboard case and managed to run both operating systems credibly if not spectacularly. As a Surface alternative for someone who needed the form factor but couldn’t justify the premium, it was a genuinely interesting proposition.

The Hardware

The 10.1″ 1920×1200 IPS display was one of the Hi10 Pro’s stronger points — bright, reasonably colour-accurate, and sharp enough for productivity work. The detachable keyboard case attached magnetically and via a proprietary connector, providing a reasonable typing experience if not a great one. The dual-boot configuration was the most unusual feature: separate Windows 10 and Android 5.1 partitions selectable at startup, each with full access to their respective app ecosystems. Battery life was adequate rather than impressive at around 6 hours.

Verdict

The Chuwi Hi10 Pro was a device for people willing to trade polish for price — the hardware was capable but the software experience required patience, and the build quality reflected the budget positioning. As a platform for Linux experimentation (Kali, Ubuntu, and BlackArch all received dedicated posts), it earned its place as an interesting hacking device. A compelling piece of budget hardware that rewarded tinkering.
