Fierce Beer’s Day Shift sits at a different point on the intensity spectrum from Easy Shift โ this is the daytime workhorse version, a pale ale with more hop presence and slightly more to say for itself. Fierce Beer have built their Aberdeen brewery into one of Scotland’s most prolific and respected craft operations, producing a huge and varied range with consistent quality. Day Shift is one of their most widely available beers and a strong representative of what they do.
Tasting Notes
Day Shift pours a bright, clear pale golden colour with a white head. The nose is fresh and hoppy โ tropical fruit and citrus leading, with a clean grain base underneath. On the palate it’s crisp and refreshing with a good hop punch: tropical and citrus flavours upfront, a light malt sweetness, and a clean, moderately bitter finish. It’s more assertive than Easy Shift but still firmly in session territory โ approachable rather than challenging.
Verdict
Serve cold and drink fresh โ the hop character is the main attraction and it fades with time. Day Shift is a reliable, well-made session pale ale from one of Scotland’s best craft breweries. It’s the kind of beer you can drink several pints of and still appreciate each one. Pairs well with lighter food or just on its own as an everyday drinking beer. Fierce Beer at their most accessible.
