The Arran The Bodega Sherry Cask single malt Scotch whisky is a rich and indulgent expression from the Isle of Arran Distillery — one of Scotland’s newer distilleries, established in 1995 on the beautiful island of Arran off the west coast. Despite its relatively young history, Arran has developed an impressive reputation for producing exceptional single malts, and The Bodega is one of their finest.
Named after the traditional Spanish bodegas where sherry is produced and aged, this expression has been fully matured in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks. The result is a whisky dripping with rich, dried fruit character. The nose is immediately generous — Christmas pudding, dark cherry, raisins, cinnamon, and a hint of bitter dark chocolate. On the palate it’s full-bodied and mouth-coating with muscovado sugar, stewed plum, nutmeg, and a long, warming spiced finish.
At cask strength, The Bodega is bold and unapologetic. Adding a little water opens it up further and reveals even more fruit and complexity. This is a whisky for those who love the sweeter, more sherried style of Scotch — think Macallan territory but with a distinctly Arran freshness underneath. An outstanding dram well worth seeking out.
