Beavertown Neck Oil

Another encounter with Beavertown’s Neck Oil — a beer that keeps appearing in the rotation because it consistently earns its place there. This is the full-strength Neck Oil rather than the Session IPA variant, which sits at 4.3% ABV. Beavertown have built their reputation on exactly this kind of beer: bold, visually distinctive, consistently well-made, and available widely enough to be a genuine everyday craft option rather than a special occasion purchase.

Tasting Notes

Neck Oil pours a clear pale gold with a white head and an immediately appealing nose — citrus, tropical fruit, and a clean fresh hop aroma that’s vivid and inviting. On the palate it’s crisp and hop-forward: grapefruit and tropical notes lead, moderate bitterness builds through the middle, and the finish is clean, dry, and refreshingly bitter. The body is light and the carbonation is lively. It’s a beer that disappears quickly because it’s so easy to drink, which is either a virtue or a hazard depending on context.

Verdict

Serve cold and enjoy it. Neck Oil is one of the most reliably excellent session IPAs in the UK and a benchmark for the style. It’s the beer you reach for when you want something genuinely good without having to think too hard about it. Widely available, consistently excellent, and always enjoyable. A Beavertown staple for very good reason.
