Belhaven Twisted Mango IPA

Belhaven Brewery is based in Dunbar, East Lothian, and has been brewing on the same site since 1719 — making it one of Scotland’s oldest and most historically significant breweries. They’re best known for Belhaven Best and their range of Scottish ales, but the Twisted series represents their more adventurous side: fruit-forward IPAs that take classic hop-forward brewing and add a tropical dimension. The Mango IPA is their most playful and fruity release.

Tasting Notes

Belhaven Twisted Mango IPA pours a hazy golden colour with a white head. The nose is immediately tropical — fresh mango leading, with citrus hop notes underneath. On the palate the mango character is prominent and juicy, woven through a solid hop backbone that provides the bitterness the IPA label promises. It’s fruity without being a smoothie beer — the hop bitterness keeps it anchored and stops the mango becoming cloying. The finish is clean and refreshing.

Verdict

Serve cold and drink fresh. The Twisted Mango IPA is a fun, well-executed tropical IPA that shows Belhaven’s willingness to experiment while maintaining the quality their heritage demands. It’s a great choice for anyone who enjoys fruited IPAs or wants to try something from one of Scotland’s most established breweries that isn’t the usual suspects. Refreshing and enjoyable.
