Dead Pony Club

This is another encounter with BrewDog’s Dead Pony Club — a beer worth revisiting because it consistently delivers, and because session pale ales of this quality deserve more than a single mention. The canned version of Dead Pony Club is slightly different from the draught — a touch more carbonation, perhaps a bit more hop sharpness — but the fundamental character is the same: a seriously well-hopped pale ale at a very gentle 3.8% ABV.

Tasting Notes (Can)

From the can, Dead Pony Club pours a bright golden colour with a white head that settles quickly. The nose is vivid — citrus peel, pine resin, and floral hop character that’s more pronounced than the ABV would suggest. On the palate it’s crisp and hop-forward: a citrus bitterness leads, with some tropical fruit underneath, and a clean, dry finish that fades slowly. The light body means it never feels heavy, and the carbonation keeps it lively throughout.

Verdict

Serve cold and drink fresh from the can or pour it into a glass — both work. Dead Pony Club is one of the most reliable session pale ales in the UK, and a can of it is a genuinely good way to end a long day or start a relaxed evening. For hop-heads who need to keep things civilised, this is the answer. Still excellent on every encounter.
