Flor De Cana 12 year old Rum

Flor de Caña 12 Year Old is one of the standout aged rums from Central America, produced by Compañía Licorera de Nicaragua at the San Antonio sugar mill — a family-owned operation that has been crafting rum since 1890. Nicaragua’s consistent tropical climate accelerates maturation compared to European cellars, meaning a 12-year-old Flor de Caña has absorbed considerable oak influence and developed a depth of character that punches well above its price point.

The rum is naturally aged — no added sugar, no artificial colouring — which is increasingly rare in the rum world and something Flor de Caña is rightly proud of. On the nose it’s immediately inviting: vanilla, toasted oak, dried apricot, and a hint of caramel. The palate is smooth and rounded with flavours of toffee, dark chocolate, a gentle nuttiness, and warm baking spice. The finish is long and satisfying with lingering vanilla and a dry oakiness that keeps you reaching for the glass.

This is a rum that rewards drinking neat or over a single large ice cube. It’s complex enough to sip slowly but approachable enough to enjoy without overthinking it. Flor de Caña 12 is also exceptional in an Old Fashioned or as the base for a premium rum sour. A brilliant bottle that proves aged Caribbean rum can genuinely rival the best aged spirits anywhere in the world.
