Fubar – tiny rebel

Tiny Rebel Brewing Co is based in Newport, Wales, and has become one of the most exciting and award-winning craft breweries in the UK over the past decade. They won CAMRA’s Champion Beer of Britain in 2015 with their Cwtch red ale, which is a remarkable achievement for a young brewery — and it announced them as a serious force in British craft beer. FUBAR (the acronym should be familiar to anyone with military experience or a dark sense of humour) is one of their bolder, hop-forward offerings.

Tasting Notes

FUBAR pours a hazy pale golden colour with a white head. The nose is intensely hoppy and tropical — mango, passion fruit, citrus peel, and a dank resinous quality that signals something serious in the hop department. On the palate the tropical fruit character leads, with a building bitterness through the mid-palate and a long, dry, resinous finish. It’s bold and unapologetic — exactly what the name suggests.

Verdict

Serve cold and drink fresh — tropical hops fade fast, and FUBAR at its best is a vivid, punchy experience. It’s for people who want maximum hop character and are not put off by intensity. Pairs well with spicy food, strong flavours generally, or just with the satisfaction of drinking something really well-made. Tiny Rebel at their most forthright.
