Wiper and True

Wiper and True are one of the most exciting craft breweries in Britain, operating out of a converted dairy in St Werburghs, Bristol since 2012. They’ve built a devoted following through a combination of exceptional quality, thoughtful creativity, and a tap room that’s become a pilgrimage destination for serious craft beer drinkers. Their range is wide — from hazy pale ales to imperial stouts, barrel-aged beers, and mixed-fermentation projects — and the standard across all of it is remarkably high.

What They Do Well

Wiper and True have a particular talent for hazy pale ales and IPAs — their Kaleidoscope and Milkshake IPA have become widely sought after — but they’re equally impressive with darker styles. The Maple and Vanilla Milk Stout is one of the finest examples of the style in the UK, and their barrel-aged programme has produced some genuinely special beers. Whatever you pick up from them, you can be fairly confident it’s going to be very good indeed.

Verdict

If you see a Wiper and True can on a shelf or one of their beers on tap, you should order it without much further deliberation. They’re a brewery that takes what they do seriously without taking themselves too seriously, which is exactly the right balance. The tap room in Bristol is well worth a visit if you’re in the city — and their cans are increasingly available nationwide. One of the best in the country.
