Concha y Toro’s Diablo range is Chilean winemaking aimed squarely at the premium end of the supermarket shelf โ a step up from their ubiquitous Casillero del Diablo in terms of concentration and ambition. Chile is one of the world’s great Cabernet Sauvignon countries: the climate and terroir of the Central Valley produce grapes with extraordinary natural ripeness and fruit intensity, and the Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon makes the most of that advantage in a bold, fruit-forward style.
Tasting Notes
Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon pours a deep ruby-purple with good density. The nose is immediately generous โ blackcurrant, dark cherry, a hint of tobacco, and some vanilla oak character that’s well-integrated. On the palate it’s full-bodied and smooth: dark fruit leads with blackcurrant and plum, medium tannins that are present but not grippy, and a long, warm finish with some spice from the oak ageing. It’s a confident, well-made wine that over-delivers for its price.
Verdict
Serve at room temperature with a good decant if you can manage it โ the fruit opens up beautifully with air. Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon pairs well with red meat, lamb, mature cheese, or anything with enough weight to stand up to the bold fruit character. It’s a reliable, enjoyable Chilean red that earns its place on the table. Great value at its price point.
