Einstok Icelandic Pale Ale

Einstรถk ร–lgerรฐ is a craft brewery based in Akureyri in northern Iceland โ€” which puts it comfortably inside the Arctic Circle and gives it one of the most dramatic brewing backstories going. The water they use is drawn from a natural source fed by lava-filtered Arctic groundwater, which sounds like marketing copy but actually matters: exceptionally pure water makes a real difference to the finished beer. The brewery was founded in 2011 and has built a solid international following.

Tasting Notes

The Icelandic Pale Ale pours a clear pale golden colour with a white head. The nose is clean and fresh โ€” floral hops with a hint of citrus and light grain underneath. On the palate it’s crisp and well-balanced: a moderate hop bitterness with some citrus and herbal notes, clean malt sweetness, and a dry, refreshing finish. The water character really does come through โ€” this is an unusually clean and precise beer without feeling sterile.

Verdict

Serve cold and drink fresh. Einstรถk Pale Ale is a versatile beer that works with a wide range of food โ€” grilled fish, salads, lighter pasta dishes โ€” or just on its own on a warm day. It’s the kind of pale ale you could happily drink every day without getting bored of it: clean, flavoursome, and genuinely well-made. If you enjoy craft lagers or session pale ales, this is worth hunting down.
