Tasting Notes
Blackhouse pours very dark — nearly black — with a tan head and an immediately striking nose of wood smoke, roasted malt, dark chocolate, and a faint earthy quality. On the palate the smoke is assertive but not aggressive: it weaves through the roasted malt and chocolate character, adding depth rather than dominating. There’s a pleasant sweetness in the middle that balances the smoke and roast, and the finish is long, dry, and satisfyingly complex.
Verdict
Serve at cellar temperature or slightly above and take your time with it. Blackhouse Smoked Porter is a serious dark beer for people who enjoy complexity and aren’t put off by smoke character.
