Glenfarclas 10 year old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Glenfarclas 10 Year Old is one of the great underrated single malts of Speyside — and honestly, of all Scottish whisky. Produced by the Grant family at their distillery near Ballindalloch in the heart of Speyside, Glenfarclas is one of the few remaining independently owned Scotch distilleries, and that independence shows in the quality and character of every expression they produce.

The 10 Year Old is matured exclusively in sherry casks — Oloroso sherry butts, to be precise — which gives it a richness and depth that belies its entry-level price point. At 40% ABV, the nose is welcoming and soft: dried fruit, toffee, malt biscuit, and a gentle floral note. On the palate it delivers Christmas cake, orange peel, warming spice, and a smooth sweetness that speaks entirely to the sherry cask influence. The finish is medium-length, clean, and gently warming.

Three thumbs up — and that’s not an exaggeration. For the price, Glenfarclas 10 is one of the best-value sherried Scotch whiskies available anywhere. It punches well above its weight and makes a brilliant everyday dram or a gateway whisky for someone moving from lighter blends into single malt territory. A bottle that should be in every serious whisky lover’s collection.
