Badger Tangle Foot Classic Golden Ale

Hall and Woodhouse have been brewing in Dorset since 1777, making them one of Britain’s oldest family-owned breweries. Their Badger range covers a wide spectrum of styles, and Tangle Foot is one of their best-known and most beloved ales — a beer that’s been around long enough to have genuine heritage and has maintained its quality throughout. The name is a traditional piece of English brewing humour about the effects of a particularly drinkable beer.

Tasting Notes

Tangle Foot pours a clear golden colour with a modest off-white head. The nose is gently malty and hoppy — light biscuit, some floral and citrus hop notes, clean and inviting. On the palate it’s smooth and well-balanced: malt sweetness upfront, a gentle hop bitterness through the middle, and a clean, dry finish. It’s 5% ABV, which gives it slightly more body than a session ale without tipping into heavyweight territory.

Verdict

Serve at cellar temperature in a pint glass — this is a beer that deserves proper pub conditions. Tangle Foot is the kind of reliable English golden ale that rewards loyalty: consistently well-made, consistently enjoyable, and consistently easy to drink more of than you planned. It’s excellent with pub food and even better as part of a long, lazy Friday afternoon at the office. A proper classic.
