Chromarty Brewing Co Ghost Town

Cromarty Brewing Co is based on the Black Isle in the Scottish Highlands โ€” a peninsula of farmland and forest jutting into the Cromarty Firth, which is exactly the kind of place you’d expect to produce interesting beer. Ghost Town is one of their darker offerings: a porter that leans into smoke and roast to create something atmospheric and complex. The name fits the beer perfectly โ€” there’s a brooding, slightly mysterious quality to it.

Tasting Notes

Ghost Town pours near-black with a tan head and an immediately evocative nose โ€” dark roasted malt, a hint of smoke, dark chocolate, and a faint earthiness. On the palate the roast is dominant but not harsh: coffee and dark chocolate notes, with the smoke appearing in the background rather than demanding your attention. There’s enough body to make it satisfying without being heavy, and the finish is long, dry, and gently smoky.

Verdict

Serve at cellar temperature in a pint glass or snifter โ€” this is a beer worth taking your time with. Ghost Town is a genuinely excellent dark beer that rewards attention without demanding it. It’s the kind of thing you’d drink on a cold evening when you want something with depth and character. Cromarty consistently produce beers that punch well above their weight, and this is one of their best.
