Six Degrees North’s Wanderlust appearing in an Aldi bottle is one of those genuinely pleasing discoveries of the supermarket craft beer era. Six Degrees North are a well-regarded Stonehaven brewery with serious Belgian-inspired credentials, and finding their beers stocked alongside the baked beans and budget cornflakes is a small victory for good taste. The Wanderlust is their more straightforward hop-forward pale ale — the name suggests travel and adventure, and the hop character delivers something of that spirit.
Tasting Notes
Wanderlust pours a clear, pale golden colour with a white head. The nose is bright and citrusy — tropical fruit and citrus hop notes that are fresh and inviting without the Belgian yeast complexity of some of Six Degrees North’s other beers. On the palate it’s crisp and refreshing: citrus and tropical hop character leads, with a clean malt base and a moderate bitter finish. It’s the most accessible beer in their range and works beautifully for exactly that reason.
Verdict
Serve cold and enjoy the fact that you found it in Aldi — supermarket craft beer collaborations have improved enormously and Six Degrees North in a bottle is still Six Degrees North. Wanderlust is a genuinely good pale ale at a very reasonable price, and it’s a great way to discover the brewery if you haven’t encountered them before. Impressive quality for a supermarket find.
