Iron maiden beer

Trooper is the official beer of Iron Maiden, developed in collaboration with Robinsons Brewery in Stockport — one of Britain’s oldest and most respected family breweries, established in 1838. The beer was developed with the active involvement of Bruce Dickinson, Iron Maiden’s famously multitalented frontman (singer, pilot, fencer, and, apparently, beer developer). The name comes from the classic Maiden track, and the branding is exactly what you’d expect: dramatic, bold, and heavy metal-appropriate.

Tasting Notes

Trooper pours a clear amber-gold with a cream-coloured head. The nose is citrusy and hoppy — lemon peel and a light tropical fruitiness, with a clean malt backbone. On the palate it’s well-balanced and approachable: citrus hop character upfront, malt sweetness in the middle, and a clean, moderately bitter finish. It’s around 4.7% ABV, which keeps it sessionable while still having enough presence to justify the name.

Verdict

Here’s the thing about Trooper: it’s actually a very good beer. Celebrity or band-branded beers are often disappointing cash-ins, but Robinsons clearly took the brief seriously and Bruce Dickinson is genuinely enthusiastic about ale. Serve cold in a pint glass, put on some Maiden, and enjoy it without irony. It works. Widely available and consistently solid.
