This post will show you how to hide the notifications in osx mountain lion.

open the notification center [click on the icon in the top right, next to the spotlight magnifying glass]
scroll the page down.
it will reveal an on/off radiobutton slider thing.

turn notifications off.

    this is fine except that it will have to be done every day.

      yeah, it only disables them for a day at a time!
