I made another modified gba with backlit screen mod – this time the modified gameboy advance with a backlight was a present for my brothers birthday.
I ordered the original gameboy advance, a new case, transparent buttons and a new backlit screen and an adaptor ribbon for the screen from ebay over the last few months. The screen was sent from china, so took a few weeks to get here.
Once all the parts had arrived I took the motherboard from the original gameboy advance and started the modifications
I had a wee helper for some of the build :D
Soldering the ribbon cable from the included instructions
at this point I actually broke the ribbon cable because I left the iron too near for too long, so had to order a new one – the replacement didnt need soldering :)
The screen was pretty washed-out after I assembled the GBA for some testing.
so I did the same pin-103 to GND mod as I have on my other gba and the result was a much brighter, more defined screen:
case re-assembeld and testing – it looks pretty good, and plays just like the original (and works in the dark)!
