Today we begin the West Highland Way Day 1 – Milngavie to Drymen.
Bags are packed, boots are on.
We have booked our bags with travel-lite ( http://travel-lite-uk.com ) who will take our bags each day and drop them at the campsites for us :)
This means that our walks will be easier and we can take a few things in our day-bags (lunch, etc).
Zoes dad gave us a lift to the start point, and we are about to head off once we have a coffee :)
Heading along the start of the west highland way was nice, forest paths in the bright sunshine, over a hill, round a mini loch past a sign for the kyber pass and soon it was lunch time.
For lunch we went into the glengoyne distillery and got a 20cl bottle of 15 year old (small enough to take in my bag ) and drank it from the bottle with some barrs original ginger beer. Ate our italian ham and tiger bread rolls and prepared for the afternoons walk to drymen.
after 500 yards we saw the beech tree inn, so stopped in for a toilet break and a beer, then on to drymen in the scorching heat.
We overtook a few people (Zoe told me its not a race) and got to drumquhassie farm at 3:30 and picked up our bags :)
The tent went up easy, next to a picnic bench and all the gear was layed out inside.
after a wee snooze (till we decided it was too hot in the tent) we walked along to the clachan inn in drymen, I got a pint of thatchers scrumpy and Zoe got a big glass of wine :)
We ordered fish and chips and lasagne and will probably have pudding and another pint before heading for a well earned sleep – a good end to the West Highland Way Day 1 – Milngavie to Drymen!
