DIY garage makeover – part 4 – network

September 2, 2020 DIY

What would a modern workshop be without an Internet connection 😂

We have FTTP which enters the property at the front – into a router. I’ve run a cable from there, along the skirting and out near the front door (closest point to the drainpipe I would follow to the porch roof)

From the outside I went up the drainpipe and along the roof line of the porch. From there I went through the garage door surround, along the inside and down to an accessible point near some of the new sockets.

I used external cat6 cable and wall mount bpxes, so will be good for a few years yet, but as the holes and boxes already exist I can upgrade in 5 or 10 years if we aren’t using cellular tech exclusively by then

last job was to fit the faceplate, and connect my router to a second router (giving two separate zones – I’ll link them together into one large zone later)
