How to turn off autocorrect in osx

I hate autocorrect. this shows you how to turn off autocorrect in osx!
Its one of the first things I do when I install new versions of osx (I do a wipe before I install new versions, e.g. from lion to mountain lion, or from Yosemite to el-capitan)

  • open system preferences
  • go to language and text
  • click ‘text’
  • untick ‘Correct spelling automatically’

    OK, but this doesn’t shut down this stupid autocorrect in Mail.app. Autocorrect will prevent your TextExpander snippets to expand!!!
