West Highland Way Day 5 – tyndrum to bridge of orchy

West Highland Way. after we had packed we fetched our things from the drying house. everything was dry, except my boots :| should have kept them in the hobbit house, so we sat about for an hour with my boots under the hobbit heater till they were barely dry.

we walked along to the real food cafe for a bacon and fried egg roll and I blasted my boots with the hand dryer for 10 minutes. nearly there. I put some napkins under my footbeds to get any dampness that was left, ill need to change them every mile or two till my boots are dry inside.

We only have a 7 mile walk today, so have plenty time for lots of stops to fix boots. next time im bringing the wee packers from new shoes and not using the drying house….

the terrain was easy, nice path, old military road the whole way :)
we met a girl from lithuania who was going to climb a mountain and she took a few photos of us.
we made excellent time to bridge of orchy, having left tyndrum at 11, we made it to bridge of orchy and the hotel at 14:30. We had booked a room at the hotel from the hobbit house, so went to the bar before we checked in :)

I had a ‘bitter and twisted’ and zoe had a bud. The group of women from the drovers had passed us at the shop in tyndrum and were sitting in the bar at the bridge of orchy hotel, reading through the next two days. Tomorrow is going to be a slog: 12-13 miles in the rain :( but I think we are going to upgrade to a hobbit house at the glen coe ski lodge :D

we went for a wee snooze before dinner at 18:30 where I ordered beer battered fish and chips (battered with bitter and twisted) again and zoe ordered chicken tagliatelle and garlic bread (I had a bitter and twisted again and zoe had a white wine) we sat in the bay window, overlooking the bridge and the orchy.

the food was excellent, the fish was massive. one of the belgian guys came in as we were eating and plunked himself down at the table next to ours and told us about his day, they were camping over the other side of the bridge, so we gave him the rest of our garlic bread :)

puddings were ordered: doughnuts for zoe and sticky toffee pudding for me :D I think I’ve had the exact same meal three times now on this trip.

after pudding we will go to the balcony and have a coffee and a pint, then go back to the room to check if my socks are dry yet.
